Statue Dedication:  Tuesday, June 19, 2012 This is the Sculptor of the statue.  He is from Utah.  It was great to have him here for our dedication day.

Clarion Public Library hosted a Sculpture Dedication on Tuesday, June 19th at 2 pm outside the library. Library family and friends joined together to dedicate the beautiful sculpture, "Flights of Learning", which graces the front of the newly remodeled and library addition! Refreshments were served following the dedication.

“Flights of Learning,” sculpted by Bryce Pettit, a Utah artist, represents the quest of learning through literature. A child’s life epitomizes learning and it is because of children that we as parents and members of the community shoulder the responsibility to better the world. The open book is the gateway to learning and the birds are knowledge that, once released, soar to heights that enrich and enlighten lives.

The birds also represent the freedom and opportunity gained through learning.
Each bird represents a different area of learning.
The owl is symbolic of the sciences and mathematics;
the falcon: history;
the jay: literature;
the meadowlark: music;
the hummingbird: fantasy; and
the tern: the arts.

June:  Dream Big is our theme this summer.  We had a great turn out for our guest, Dan Waddell.

Since Santa we've had Tuesday Movies and a Saturday game day, and now with May, I come to the library to see Nancy playing "The Bean Bag Rock" and a great Art show.   Too bad the camera only stayed charged for a few pictures.

The night of Santa's Visit...

'Twas the night of Santa's visit, when all through the Library,
All the children were excited to see what he would carry,
in his pack that he had...
all were good, no one was bad.
In cute Pajamas they came to talk to the man - oh so merry.

They made treats with a grape, graham crackers and cream cheese,
From a cinnamon stick, beads and a pipe cleaner - Christmas trees!
They stamped bags for a gift
To give someone a lift
Drank hot chocolate - and we didn't hear a sneeze.

Some kids came early, and we made snowflakes from paper,
And learned to draw a puppy, kitten and a friend or a neighbor.
The library is fun
we hope you can come
Even if Santa's not here, you can find lots to savor.

The birds flying out from the open book symbolize different types of knowledge. The owl represents science and math; the falcon, history; the jay, literature; the meadowlark, music; the hummingbird, fantasy; and the tern stands for the arts.

We had a great turnout for the Blank Park Zoo and their animals from around the world.

Yes, spring is here. But also, after standing empty for a year, the house west of the library was torn down.
